Japan orders local giants LINE and NAVER to disentangle their tech stacks

Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs ordered LINE and NAVER to separate their technology stacks and remove shared authentication after a data breach exposed more than 510,000 LINE users. The incident was caused by NAVER Cloud's extensive access to LINE's environment and a shared Active Directory that enabled unauthorized access; NAVER failed to detect the intrusion. The Ministry's guidance mandates disentanglement, independent authentication systems, comprehensive reviews, attention to contractor access, and quarterly progress reporting.
