French authorities are investigating a compromise of the government messaging platform Tchap after an account was hijacked. Officials say only public chat rooms — which are not encrypted — may have been exposed and that private conversations remain encrypted, while an alleged attacker claims access to tens of thousands of accounts, hundreds of thousands of messages, media files, and restricted documents; those claims have not been verified. DINUM has blocked the affected account, notified CNIL, and is reviewing logs to determine the true scope of access.
