Britain Putin up stronger AI defences to counter growing cyber threats

The UK announced the creation of the Laboratory for AI Security Research (LASR), backed by £8.22 million in seed funding and partnerships with GCHQ, NCSC, DSTL, the Alan Turing Institute, and the University of Oxford, to counter AI-powered cyber threats—particularly from Russia—within a NATO-aligned framework. Revealed at the NATO Cyber Defence Conference, the initiative also includes an additional £1 million for incident response to warn allies and manage active threats, underscoring a strategic focus on AI’s role in national security and allied defense cooperation.
