China's Salt Typhoon recorded top American officials' calls, says White House

U.S. officials say the Salt Typhoon campaign, attributed to Chinese government-backed spies, compromised eight U.S. telecom providers and organisations in dozens of countries to steal metadata and a limited number of private communications, including recordings of very senior political figures and some law-enforcement wiretapping systems.
