Akamai reports a 245% surge in malicious activity since the start of the Iran war, driven largely by infrastructure scanning, botnet reconnaissance, credential harvesting and DDoS preparatory traffic. Banking and fintech have been primary targets, and traffic analysis shows significant source IPs from Russia and China as well as Iran; the report also highlights pro-Russian hacktivist activity and a claimed destructive data-wiping attack by the Iranian-linked group Handala.
