Cops turn LockBit ransomware gang's countdown timers against them

Law enforcement-led Operation Cronos seized LockBit's leak site and backend, took down 34 servers across multiple countries, froze over 200 cryptocurrency accounts, recovered more than 1,000 decryption keys and source code, and led to arrests and indictments of affiliates; the operation yielded intelligence on LockBit's StealBit exfiltration tooling and affiliate infrastructure, though LockBit claims backups were untouched and blamed exploitation of CVE-2023-3824, leaving open the possibility the group could recover or reconstitute.
