US chip testing firm shrugged off ransomware hit as minor – then came the data leak

Trio-Tech International detected a ransomware infection at its Singapore subsidiary on March 11 that encrypted some files and, after escalation on March 18, resulted in the unauthorized disclosure of company data. Management activated incident response, involved outside cybersecurity assistance and law enforcement, and is investigating the scope and potential impacts while working with its cyber insurance provider; the responsible ransomware group and precise data exfiltrated have not been disclosed.
