UK opens investigation of MoD payroll contractor after confirming attack

A cyberattack on the Ministry of Defence payroll contractor SSCL (owned by Sopra Steria) allowed unidentified 'malign' actors to access names, financial details and in some cases home addresses for up to 272,000 current and a limited number of former armed forces personnel; systems have been taken offline, there is no confirmed data exfiltration, and the UK government has launched reviews while not formally attributing the activity though media sources and officials have suggested possible state involvement.
