Police allege ‘evil twin’ of in-flight Wi-Fi used to steal passenger’s credentials

Australia's Federal Police charged a 42-year-old man accused of operating fake Wi‑Fi hotspots (so-called 'evil twin' networks) on at least one domestic flight and at airport locations to harvest email and social-media credentials; officers seized a portable wireless access device, a laptop and a phone. The charges allege unauthorized access and possession of data with intent to commit a serious offence; authorities advised travelers not to log in via email/social accounts on public Wi‑Fi, to use VPNs, disable file sharing and avoid sensitive transactions on public networks.
