Chat at your own risk! Data brokers are selling deeply personal bot transcripts

Research and reporting show that certain browser extensions (marketed as VPNs, ad blockers, etc.) are intercepting AI chatbot traffic by overriding browser fetch()/XMLHttpRequest(), capturing prompts and responses verbatim, and that data brokers are aggregating and selling those conversations in searchable commercial datasets. The exposed conversations include highly sensitive categories (mental health, medical records, immigration status, children, sexual violence, and corporate internal data), with investigators finding millions of records and identifiable details despite claimed pseudonymization, raising significant privacy and legal risks.
