Senator Ron Wyden has urged the NCSC to warn U.S. businesses about the espionage risks of manufacturer reset codes in commercially available electronic safe locks, especially Chinese-made products from SECURAM, which he says could be compelled to share codes with the Chinese government. Wyden claims the DoD already views these backdoors as a security threat and restricts their use in government but has not informed the public, potentially leaving U.S. companies’ trade secrets vulnerable; he calls for updated guidance that promotes locks meeting U.S. government security standards.
