Your car’s web browser may be on the road to cyber ruin

KU Leuven researchers used a crowdsourced framework (CheckEngine) to evaluate embedded browsers across 53 products and found many are several years out of date and contain known security bugs; they reproduced issues such as address-bar spoofing and insecure --no-sandbox configurations in gaming clients and device browsers, warned that vendors often fail to provide timely security updates, and recommended regulatory measures to compel better embedded-browser hygiene.
