OpenAI shuts down China, Russia, Iran, N Korea accounts caught doing naughty things

OpenAI and Microsoft disclosed that five state-affiliated threat actors — China-linked Charcoal Typhoon and Salmon Typhoon, Iran-linked Crimson Sandstorm, North Korea-linked Emerald Sleet, and Russia-linked Forest Blizzard (Fancy Bear) — used GPT-4 to perform OSINT, translate technical papers, craft targeted phishing, automate scripting tasks, and research ways to evade malware detection; OpenAI terminated the accounts and emphasized the models’ limited additional capability for sophisticated cyberattacks.
