Indonesian government didn't have backups of ransomwared data, because DR was only an option

Indonesia’s Temporary National Data Center (PDNS) was hit by a ransomware attack on June 20 using a LockBit variant named "Brain Cipher," encrypting centralized government data and demanding 131 billion Rupiah (~US$8M). The incident disrupted digital services nationwide, revealed that roughly 98% of affected data had no backups, prompted a presidential-ordered audit of government datacenters, and led officials to attempt decryption rather than pay the ransom.
