Trickbot malware scumbag gets five years for infecting hospitals, businesses

A former developer for the Trickbot criminal gang, Vladimir Dunaev, pleaded guilty and was sentenced in the U.S. for developing and operating components of Trickbot between 2016–2021, including browser credential theft, encryption to evade detection, phishing/spam operations, server management, and laundering proceeds. The report notes the gang extorted at least $180 million globally, that Trickbot functioned as a banking trojan and initial access vector for ransomware, and that developers have migrated to other criminal operations following takedowns and sanctions.
