Indian telcos to cut off scammy, spammy, telemarketers for two whole years

India’s TRAI has ordered telecom operators to block unregistered telemarketers and share ban details across carriers within 24 hours using a DLT platform, with offenders barred for up to two years. Telcos must migrate data on unregistered senders within a month and provide compliance and twice-monthly updates, escalating penalties from warnings to usage caps before bans. The move builds on earlier blockchain and AI-driven anti-spam efforts that reduced complaints but left gaps, aiming to more effectively curb spam and scam calls domestically and internationally.
