Man behind deepfake Biden robocall indicted on felony charges, faces $6M fine

Political consultant Steven Kramer was indicted on multiple counts of voter suppression and impersonation after commissioning an AI voice-cloned robocall that mimicked President Biden and urged New Hampshire voters not to vote, distributing the message to more than 5,000 recipients via telemarketing services. The FCC also proposed a $6 million fine against Kramer and a $2 million penalty against Lingo Telecom for caller ID spoofing and improper attestation, marking what could become the first U.S. enforcement action against deepfake robocalls.
