Dutch health insurers were reportedly asking breast cancer patients for nude photographs to approve follow-up reconstructive surgeries, often via insecure channels, and then losing those images; the report notes that similar medical photos have previously been stolen by ransomware groups and used for extortion. After public outcry and a ministerial requirement that photos be taken and retained by hospitals, insurers' trade body changed its policy so patients no longer need to submit images and requests this year are approved by default.
