Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has ordered Yahoo Japan (and its LY Corporation subsidiary that runs LINE) to strengthen security governance and disentangle shared technology stacks with NAVER after a 2023 customer data leak and prior exposures that allowed Chinese entities to read LINE messages. The ministry reviewed Yahoo Japan's April remediation plan, deemed it inadequate, and demanded faster reviews of infosec management, subcontractor access controls, group-wide governance, and regular public updates on progress.
