Chinese-linked APT group Volt Typhoon has been observed infecting hundreds of end-of-life routers to build a botnet aimed at U.S. critical infrastructure; U.S. agencies testified to Congress about the risk of disruption to power, water, pipelines and transportation, and the FBI executed warrants and issued a remote kill command to disrupt the botnet, warning of the potential for large-scale societal disruption if the capability were used in a crisis.
