Coupang reported an insider incident in which a former employee allegedly took a security key and used it to access customer records; investigators found scripts on a surrendered PC and recovered a smashed MacBook from a river whose serial matched the accused's iCloud. While the company stated the perpetrator ‘‘only’’ retained data for about 3,000 customers (despite claims involving 33 million accounts), it has engaged Mandiant, Palo Alto Networks, and Ernst & Young for forensics, obtained sworn statements, will issue vouchers to affected customers, and faces a government inquiry and potential fines.
