US indicts two over socially engineered $230M+ crypto heist

Two individuals were indicted for allegedly stealing more than 4,100 bitcoins (over $230 million) from a Washington, D.C. resident through a trust-based scam between August and September; the suspects are accused of laundering the funds using VPNs, mixers, peel-chain transactions, exchanges, and conversions to other cryptocurrencies (Ethereum, Monero) and fiat, then spending proceeds on luxury goods and travel, with the case handled by the US Attorney's Office, FBI, and IRS.
