UK wants dirt on data brokers before criminals get there first

The UK government’s Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology has launched a call for evidence on the data brokerage industry to assess its operations, security practices, customers, and national security risks, coinciding with the near-finalization of the Data (Use and Access) Bill. A separate consultation addresses data intermediaries, clarifying their distinction from data brokers, with both efforts aimed at enabling compliant, ethical data sharing while mitigating cybersecurity risks. Stakeholders are invited to submit views by May 12, with assurances that sensitive information will be handled securely.
