Newmark initiative will bring online a network of civil defense hackers

Craig Newmark Philanthropies, in partnership with UC Berkeley, CISA, and the CyberPeace Institute, announced the Volunteer Network for Civil Cyber Defense to coordinate and amplify volunteer cybersecurity programs that help under-resourced organizations. The initiative, backed by $1.2M in funding and existing university-led cyber clinic projects, aims to address fragmented volunteer efforts and provide accessible, no-cost cyber protection and guidance to community-serving entities at risk from ransomware and state-affiliated threats.
