Graphika and other researchers report that Spamouflage (also called Dragonbridge/Taizi Flood/Empire Dragon), a disinformation operation linked to the Chinese government, has stepped up efforts since mid-2023 to impersonate American voters using AI-generated profiles and patriotic imagery to spread divisive content about U.S. politics and institutions; researchers note targeted topics include Gaza, homelessness, gun control and racial inequality, but also find the campaign largely ineffective at generating organic engagement.
