California AG launches investigation into X’s sexualized deepfakes

California Attorney General Rob Bonta launched an investigation into xAI’s Grok “spicy mode” over allegations it enabled large-scale creation of nonconsensual sexually explicit deepfakes, including of minors, as the Senate unanimously passed the DEFIANCE Act to grant civil remedies against creators and distributors of such content; xAI has not publicly responded while Elon Musk denied awareness of underage images, and both California and the UK signaled increased scrutiny of deepfakes on X.
