Brazil’s Federal Police arrest alleged National Public Data hacker

Brazilian federal police arrested a suspect known as USDoD/EquationCorp (reported alias Luan) accused of orchestrating multiple large-scale breaches, most notably a 2.9 billion-record compromise of National Public Data that exposed names, addresses, birth dates, phone numbers and Social Security numbers; the report also attributes intrusions into FBI InfraGard and breaches affecting Airbus and the EPA, and notes the stolen data (with server credentials) was being sold on cybercrime forums for approximately $3.5M.
