Court rules SAVE database illegal, orders it dismantled

A federal court (Judge Sparkle L. Sooknanan, D.C. District Court) ruled that the SAVE voter database — created by combining data from multiple federal agencies including SSA records — violated the Privacy Act, the Social Security Act, and the Administrative Procedure Act and must be vacated and dismantled. The court found agencies knew the system was unlawful yet proceeded under political pressure, leading to wrongful noncitizen identifications and canceled voter registrations; plaintiffs included the League of Women Voters and EPIC.
