Major U.S. water company hit by cyberattack

American Water Works Company, which supplies water to over 14 million people across 14 states, disclosed a cyberattack on Oct. 3 that temporarily took billing systems offline while operations for water and wastewater services remained unaffected; the company has disconnected some systems, assured customers they will not incur late charges, and is working with law enforcement to determine the full impact.
