Chinese group’s ChatGPT use reveals worldwide harassment campaign against critics

OpenAI reported that a single account tied to Chinese law-enforcement used ChatGPT alongside other AI tools to support extensive influence and harassment operations—employing hundreds of human staff, thousands of fake social accounts, fabricated documents and impersonation—to silence critics and conduct scams, while investigators found no evidence that ChatGPT was used to carry out automated offensive cyberattacks.
