US lifting export control restrictions on Anthropic’s Mythos, Fable

Anthropic has reached an agreement with the U.S. Commerce Department to lift export controls and restore U.S. access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models after an Amazon report claimed a jailbreak could expose cybersecurity capabilities; Anthropic says the behavior was a borderline case, that similar capabilities exist in other models, and that it has trained new classifiers and guardrails to block the reported techniques while acknowledging the changes may hinder routine defensive cyber tasks.
