Russian access broker sentenced to over 6 years in prison for ransomware schemes

Aleksei Volkov (aka “chubaka.kor”) was sentenced to 81 months in a U.S. federal court after pleading guilty to acting as an initial access broker for the Yanluowang ransomware group and other cybercriminals from July 2021 to November 2022; his activities facilitated dozens of attacks resulting in over $9 million in confirmed losses, $1.5 million in ransom payments, and publication of stolen data, and he was ordered to pay restitution and forfeit equipment.
