Treasury sanctions North Korea over remote IT worker schemes

The U.S. Treasury imposed sanctions on two individuals and four entities accused of operating a North Korean scheme that placed thousands of remote IT workers overseas, took up to 90% of their earnings via Department 53 front companies (e.g., Korea Osong Shipping Co., Chonsurim Trading Corporation), and funneled funds to weapons programs and support for Russia; OFAC also named a Chinese supplier (Liaoning China Trade Industry Co., Ltd.) and cited prior indictments and industry detections accounting for at least $88M in illicit gains.
