Utilities trade association releases baseline cyber standards for distributed renewable energy

The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC), with funding from the U.S. Department of Energy’s CESER office, released voluntary cybersecurity baselines for distributed energy resources (DERs) and electric distribution systems to standardize protections across state-regulated sectors. Modeled on CISA’s cybersecurity performance goals and aligned with the National Cybersecurity Strategy, the initial phase sets foundational guidance and will move toward implementation strategies, with DOE and NARUC hosting public briefings to support adoption amid rapid renewable energy growth.
