A U.S. Treasury Department report warns that AI tools are likely to increase cyber-enabled fraud in the financial services sector, highlighting adversary use cases such as social engineering, malware and code generation, vulnerability discovery, and disinformation, as well as risks to AI systems including data poisoning, leakage, evasion, and model extraction. Drawing on input from 42 organizations, it urges firms to strengthen AI-aware risk management aligned with NIST’s AI RMF and related frameworks, integrate AI into cybersecurity and anti-fraud operations, improve data supply-chain mapping and standards, adopt a common AI lexicon, and expand threat information sharing, with Treasury coordinating next steps alongside NIST, CISA, and NTIA.
