White House: Chinese telecom hacks have been in motion for years

A White House official says the China-linked "Salt Typhoon" campaign has penetrated multiple telecommunications networks—impacting eight U.S. telecom companies and dozens of countries—and may have persisted for up to two years. Officials believe the attackers retain access to networks, posing ongoing risks to communications (including targeting political officials), and federal agencies (CISA, NSA, FBI and international partners) are coordinating guidance and remediation with telecom providers and industry leaders.
