Amnesty International exposes Serbian police’s use of spyware on journalists, activists

Amnesty International’s report alleges that Serbian police and the BIA have used Cellebrite phone-extraction technology together with a bespoke Android spyware called NoviSpy to surveil journalists and activists; Amnesty analyzed a case where physical access to a detained journalist’s phone enabled installation of spyware that can exfiltrate data and remotely activate microphone/camera, raising concerns about state abuse of forensic tools and potential mapping of sources and contacts.
