Pro‑Russia hacktivists have been compromising operational technology and industrial control systems in water, wastewater, energy, dam, food and agriculture sectors across North America and Europe, manipulating set points, disabling alarms, changing administrative passwords and causing nuisance and some physical effects (e.g., pump/blower over‑run and at least one reported tank overflow). A multi‑agency advisory from CISA, FBI, NSA and international partners warns these are mostly unsophisticated attacks that exploit common weak configurations and default credentials, and recommends immediate mitigations such as replacing default passwords, limiting internet exposure, and implementing multi‑factor authentication.
