DHS privacy probe will focus on biometric tracking by ICE, OBIM

DHS’s Inspector General has initiated an audit into the department’s collection, management, sharing, and security of biometric and other PII related to immigration enforcement, focusing first on ICE and the Office of Biometric Identity Management. Spurred by concerns from Senators Warner and Kaine, the review targets practices such as facial recognition and license plate databases, expanded biometric collection, social media surveillance contracting, and third-party data broker use, alongside questions of constitutional and privacy law compliance.
