OpenAI says it has disrupted 20-plus foreign influence networks in past year

OpenAI reported disrupting over 20 operations and networks run by foreign actors (including accounts tied to China, Russia, Iran and others) that used ChatGPT and related tools to generate disinformation, mass-produce social media content, craft spearphishing emails (including a .zip with a remote access trojan targeting OpenAI employees), and perform vulnerability research and malware scripting; analysts concluded AI is being used mainly to accelerate intermediate phases of influence and cyber operations rather than producing revolutionary new malware.
