Armenian national pleads guilty to Ryuk ransomware attacks

An Armenian national, Karen Serobovich Vardanyan, pleaded guilty to participating in Ryuk ransomware attacks in 2019–2020 that targeted multiple U.S. organizations (including a company that paid nearly $1.2M, a technology firm, and a Texas school); prosecutors say the co-conspirators deployed Ryuk across hundreds of servers and workstations and received about 1,160 BTC in ransom payments, and Vardanyan faces restitution, possible imprisonment, and removal from the U.S.
