Ukrainian national Mark Sokolovsky was sentenced to five years in U.S. federal prison for operating and leasing Raccoon Infostealer, a malware-as-a-service that stole login credentials, financial data, and personal records from millions worldwide (over 52 million credentials cited). The operation facilitated fraud, identity theft, and ransomware attacks, generated revenue via monthly leasing, and was dismantled by international law enforcement in March 2022, though reports indicated a resurgence by June 2022.
