Biden’s budget proposal seeks funding boost for cybersecurity

The FY2025 budget proposal allocates $13B for civilian cybersecurity, including $3B for CISA ($470M for EDR deployment, $116M for CIRCIA implementation, $41M for critical infrastructure coordination, and $394M for internal cyber/analytics), expands DOJ/FBI cyber capabilities ($25M) and NSD efforts ($5M) with $2M for secure AI, and strengthens healthcare security with $800M for basic hospital controls, a $500M incentive program, and $141M to bolster HHS defenses. Additional investments target USDA IT/cyber staffing, NHTSA vehicle cybersecurity and AI risks, DOE’s $455M AI test beds for energy/national security, State’s $800M IT/cyber uplift, and Treasury’s +$50M and mainframe-to-secure-cloud migration. The plan also boosts cybersecurity workforce pipelines via HBCUs/MSIs and allocates $10M to VAWA programs addressing cybercrimes, framed amid references to recent federal and healthcare cyber incidents.
