Microsoft organizational changes seek to address security failures

Microsoft announced major governance and product-priority changes under its "Secure the Future Initiative" after repeated breaches by state-linked actors — including Chinese hackers stealing a sensitive signing key used to spy on senior U.S. officials and Russian attackers accessing source code and senior executives' emails. The company said it will prioritize security over shipping new features, tie some senior executive compensation to security targets, implement six security priorities (such as protecting identities, secrets, tenant accounts, and isolating production systems), and conduct weekly executive reviews to address criticism that it had deprioritized enterprise security.
