Russian national indicted for role in cyberattacks on Ukraine

A U.S. federal indictment names Amin Timovich Stigal as a Russian national who allegedly collaborated with Russian military intelligence to carry out WhisperGate wiper attacks against Ukrainian military and civilian systems ahead of Russia's 2022 invasion. The activity, attributed internationally and linked to the group Microsoft calls Cadet Blizzard (using the "Free Civilian" persona), involved destructive malware disguised as ransomware, theft and posting of Ukrainian civilian data, and disruption of services such as Viasat.
