Report: Manufacturing bears the brunt of industrial ransomware

Dragos reports a roughly 50% year-over-year rise in ransomware targeting industrial organizations in 2023, tracking 905 incidents—638 (70%) in manufacturing. LockBit was the most observed variant (222 hits), with ALPHV and BlackBasta also prominent; the report attributes the surge to rapid digitization, insufficient IoT/OT security and poor IT/OT segmentation, and warns that utilities and other sectors face increasing ransomware risk.
