Researchers spot updated version of malware that hit Viasat

Researchers identified a new variant of the AcidRain modem-wiper—dubbed AcidPour—uploaded to VirusTotal and attributed by Ukrainian authorities to a GRU-linked unit (UAC-0165 / Sandworm). AcidPour reportedly adds the ability to target RAID arrays and UBIFS on embedded devices, expanding potential impact from modems to a wider set of networking, storage, IoT and possibly industrial control systems; authorities have been notified but confirmed widespread deployment is not established.
