McAfee Advanced Threat Research found that McLear NFC Rings using NTAG216 chips expose a static manufacturer-programmed 7-byte UID that can be read at NFC range and cloned (via proxmark3 or writable NTAG emulators), enabling unauthorized home entry; the report demonstrates practical cloning methods, social-engineering scenarios, notes potential UID predictability, and recommends cryptographic tag authentication, UID randomization, and two-factor doorlock protection.
