AI Can Find Your Location 91% of the Time Using Just One Photo

McAfee Labs research finds that freely available vision-capable AI models (Gemma3 27B and Qwen3 VL 30B) can identify the city and country in ordinary travel photos with up to ~91% accuracy, enabling attackers to craft highly believable, location-specific scams at scale. The report describes the dataset (21,236 public images + 102 controlled images), methodology, attacker workflow, real examples, consumer behaviors that increase exposure, and practical mitigations such as delaying posts, tightening privacy, verifying messages, and using protective tools like VPNs and scam detectors.
