Making It: 1st Annual DISC Capture the Flag Event

This report summarizes the inaugural Dragos DISC 2021 Capture the Flag (CTF), an ICS-focused learning event held November 2–4 that used OpenPLC-based PLC Docker images, network PCAPs, and memory dumps to create challenges across skill levels. It describes design goals (accessibility, varied OS coverage, blue-team education), participant support via a Discord server, and event outcomes—approximately 300 registrants from 191 teams in 28 countries, 7 teams completed all challenges, with PCAP challenges being the most solved and binary analysis the least.
